All About the Washington State Fair

Every year, the city of Puyallup, WA hosts the Washington State Fair at the fairgrounds. You’ll be able to enjoy rides, food, and events for 20 days in September from morning tonight. There is also a 4-day spring gathering every April. The fair is open most days of the week from either 9:30 a.m. - 9:30 p.m. or 10:30 a.m. - 10:30 p.m., but the hours change regularly. Always inquire about the hours of operation before you head on out.

Plenty of room for everyone

With more than 169 acres, the Washington State Fair Events Center is the largest attraction in the state. Residents of local Puyallup and those from many of the surrounding cities visit each year. With an estimated value of more than $54 million, the state takes great pride in producing an outstanding event for attendees to enjoy.

As a non-profit, 501-C3 organization, the goal of the fair isn’t to make money. Rather, organizers strive to give back to the community. Any profits earned during the season are used to make future renovations and improvements.

Rides for the entire family

The Washington State Fair in Puyallup is known for having an abundance of rides. Whether you consider yourself a thrill-seeker or you prefer something tamer, you’ll have plenty of options to keep you occupied. Each ride costs a certain number of tickets, which you can buy in bulk either online or at the gate.

Those with small children will be happy to learn about the SillyVille exhibits. The rides in this area are fun, without being over-the-top. You’ll find plenty of options for little ones, and most of these rides have less strict height restrictions.

Thrillville, on the other hand, features many more heart-pounding rides. Here you’ll find a variety of rollercoasters and fast rides. Even the classic Antique Carousel is here, which has been a fair staple since 1923! It’s perfect for the youngest to the oldest guests, and seniors can ride for free!

Plenty of entertainment

After enjoying a few rides, don’t forget to catch a show. Every day, the Washington State Fair features a full event of activities. People from across Puyallup sign up to perform. From watching the animals at the rodeo to catching a live concert, there is always plenty to see. There are even craft zones and plenty of competitions to enter. Your daily guide will provide a list of events so that you can plan your trip accordingly.

Special diet? No problem!

Some people go to the fair to enjoy different types of foods. Fair foods, however, have a reputation for being high-calorie and loading in fat. And, of course, you can’t forget about all the various meats you can sample. If these foods don’t sound like they’re on your diet, think again. The Washington State Fair has vendors that offer other options to meet the needs of visitors.

Several vendors have vegetarian or even vegan options. Others have peanut-free foods if you suffer from an allergy. If you need to avoid gluten, you’ll be happy to know there are plenty of celiac-friendly vendors as well. You can even munch away on low-fat and low-calorie goodies if you are watching your weight. Be sure to search for a map of vendors beforehand so you know exactly where you can eat throughout the park.   More Here
